This is beautiful, Alan – many things you say resonate with me. I love your distinction between inhabiting our complexities and exploring them. My mother used to tell me, "you can be angry, or you can have anger." If we can perceive the distance between inhabiting and exploring, then it's easier to begin to witness the complexity of others, because we're less prone to projecting our complexity and density onto them.
Thank you for this, Alan. This is valuable to put into human words the feelings I've felt around an estranged relationship, one that is very important to me. My perception vs their lived experience, a perception I've intuited, but could not bring to a common language for us to communicate with. Thank you for distilling this to a conversation I can lead my thinking and communicating with. It's not always a shift in mindset - I'm already there. But I could not open the communication that is so important for me and us. Thank you again for highlighting the important words and ideas for us, in this instance, my perception based on my personal lived experience in relationship to their lived experience. I also shifted my thinking from 'mine vs theirs' to 'in relationship' because this is truly what it is. Thank you again for your insights.
I love hearing your voice Alan & I may listen to this one twice…..I felt a shift in perception. I’ll listen again tomorrow & see what else comes up! Thanks 🙏
