What a beautiful perspective this creates for all that is happening in the physical world, the global dynamics of power and its affects on our world, and the reflections of all this in our interior worlds. Thank you, Alan. So beautiful and helpful!
Alan, thank you for the metaphors that apply to so many layers of my life. From watching my mother with Alzheimer's wander through a largely unrecognizable world to listening to my grandchildren struggle with what it means if AI is soon doing large parts of their jobs, I recognize that a new chapter is emerging. Be present, be patient. And yet - how patient do we have to be with all this damn smoke?! :)
Thank you, Jane. And patience opens another topic entirely--when to be patient and when patience is holding us back from what is asking for action. You have dealt with the fires up close and personal. Patience is a virtue until it isn't.
This is gorgeous, Alan. I love its deep, wide, eternal embrace. Your description and experience of the wide-openness of nonlinear time rings so true to me. And my god, yes, the wonderful echo between your post today and mine yesterday – is it just the smoke? Or is it uncanny?
Thank you, Cate. I love this parallel between your post and mine this week. They are very different essays, yet the thread is there. Thank you for your generous words and your essays bringing together art and life.
Beautiful Alan!
“Possibilities hidden just beneath the surface,
waiting for their time to emerge….”
Thank you for reminding that presence isn’t just for calm moments, it’s most needed exactly when the shroud is thickest.
Beautifully said, Guy. Thank you. And thank you for what you are starting to bring to Substack through your column.

Thank you, Johnathon. If we're willing to let our interior worlds speak, we make discoveries about the world around us. And the other way around.
